COSTS OF EXCHANGE
The total costs of an Exchange can vary greatly from country to country and family to family.
| Estimated between $13,100 and $20,500 In nominating for a 12 month Rotary Outbound Exchange, you should be aware that the Parents/Guardians of the Student will be responsible for the majority of the out of pocket costs associated with the program.

Fixed Costs
District 9780 Global Fee
[Payable in instalments between May and November 2012.]
| $7,500 (can change if the fuel levy is increased more than expected) Covers the following out of pocket costs: • All administration costs • Registration Costs for the Outbound Nominee Student and 1 Parent/Guardian for ALL District Selection and Briefing Meetings, including re-orientation day in February 2014. • Student Badge • Student Business Cards • Rotary Youth Exchange Blazer, Tie or Scarf • Return Air fare to/from final destination • Compulsory Travel & Accident Insurance • Student Visa Costs
|
Variable Costs
These costs will vary from family to family and the country of exchange.
| Estimated between $6,500 and $13,500 It should be noted that many of these costs would occur during the year even if the Student were not involved in a Rotary 12 month Youth Exchange. Therefore, they should be viewed in that context, rather than as additional costs! There is the airlines fuel levy that can be charged for 2013 the average is $700.
|
- Additional District Costs
| Accommodation and travel costs for District Events, registration costs for additional event attendees, airport departure/return, etc. |
| All exchange students are required to lodge the equivalent to $400 with their Host Rotary Club Counsellor immediately upon their arrival in their host country. This is only to be used in an emergency. If used, it is also a requirement that it be "topped up" to the initial amount. It is refundable to the student prior to their return to Australia.
|
[spread throughout 2013]
| The Host Rotary Club will provide a financial benefit to the Student of at least the equivalent of $US80 per month. How much additional money is required is entirely up to you! |
[Payable prior to tour departure in the host country ]
| Each Host Country involved in Youth Exchange will offer at least one organised tour during the 12 months abroad. We would estimate that the cost of the tour will be in the vicinity of $3,000. Although not compulsory, we encourage participation in the Host District organised tours. |
| In addition to the Outbound Student we would recommend that at least one parent/guardian have a current passport (just in case of an emergency) |
| An allowance should be made for the financial cost of clothing (suitable for the country destination), gifts/souvenirs, education costs (eg. books, etc.) |
| PROVIDED AT NO COST | During the year abroad the Host Rotary Club and/or the Host Families will provide the Outbound Student with the following at no cost to the Australian Family: • Food & Lodgings • Hosted by a Rotary International Certified District • A 12–month Educational placement including basic school expenses • A range of Family and Rotary Outings • A minimum allowance equivalent to $US80 per month
