Local Rotary Club Selection
To be considered for Youth Exchange the applicant must be nominated to the District Youth Exchange Committee by any one of the Rotary Clubs within District 9780.
Individual Rotary Clubs in District 9780 undertake local advertising seeking interested Youth Exchange candidates. They may conduct an Information Night, advertise through the local media or at local secondary schools with the aim of attracting interest from Students that fall within the appropriate age range.
Past Youth Exchange Students are an excellent source of information and they may be invited to speak at the local secondary schools, to Club members to generate interest in, and a commitment to, the Youth Exchange Program. The District Youth Exchange Committee also promotes the Youth Exchange Program on this website and continually updates the information on it. It is a great place to start!
Students are selected by local Rotary Clubs on the basis of their written application and a personal interview, usually held in late February. The interview should be conducted by a panel consisting of at least 2, preferrably 3, Club Members and a sample of appropriate questions and scoring sheets has been included in the Documents listed below.
Applicants and their parents/guardians are interviewed to attend the interviews. Interview questions will cover areas such as school, hobbies, sport, leadership, employment, family relationships, local and general knowledge, Rotary and your potential participation in the exchange program.
Written Applications from interested Students must be on the correct application form, see below, and close with your Rotary Clubs before their specified date - usually before the end of February each year. Students may apply to more than one Rotary Club, if desired and the one Rotary Club may select and nominate more than one Student to the District Youth Exchange Committee for consideration.
Following your Club's selection process the successful applicant(s) is/are then nominated to the District Youth Exchange Committee.
